Bhatkal, Jun 11: In a case of apparent communal hatred against Bhatkal Muslims, a student was reportedly prevented from boarding a flight by the authorities at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru just because he hailed from Bhatkal.
However, immigration officers at the Airport, after coming to known that the student hailed from Bhatkal, reportedly did not allow him to board the flight and started asking him bizarre questions.
Mr Khazi, who finally reached UAE through another flight on Thursday, told Coastaldigest.com that the officers inquired him whether he knew Yaseen Bhatkal, a terror accused.
The student clearly told the officers that he did not have any information about any terror accused. However, they continued to ask unwarranted questions and refused to return his passport on time saying that its details needed to be verified.
The flight took off without Mr Khazi, who was forced to wait for over two hours by the immigration officers. The authorities returned him the passport, visa and tickets only after the flight left the Airport.
He had planned visit his parents in Gulf during the vacation. During the past vacations too, he had visited the Gulf and stayed with his family members.
Finally, Mr Khazi reached UAE through another flight after buying another ticket. “They mentally harassed me for a long time and I also lost the money I paid for the ticket,” he complained.
Meanwhile, Jamia Islamia University, Majlis-e-Islah Wa Tanzeem and other Muslim organisations have condemned the alleged racist behaviour of the authorities at Bengaluru Airport and demanded apology from them.
