Mangalore, Sep 4: A tense situation prevailed in Ullal town and surrounding areas following a two unknown miscreants stabbed a 26-year-old youth at Bastipadpu on Wednesday night.
Abhishek Poojary (26), a resident of Sundari Bagh in Ullal, has been admitted to intensive care unit of a private hospital in the city, with deep stab injuries. The crime took place at around 11:00 p.m. when Abhishek was returning home along with his friend Shivraj (26) on a motorbike from the direction of Thokkottu.
It is said that the miscreants who came on a two wheeler intercepted Abhishek's motorbike and brutally stabbed him in the abdomen. The condition of Abhishek is said to be critical even after several hours.
The incident has triggered tension in Ullal. On Thursday a group of BJP workers tried to lay siege to Ullal police station to exert pressure on the police to arrest the culprits immediately and prevent recurrence of such untoward incidents. Former MLA candidate Chandrahas Uchil and zilla panchayat vice president, Satish Kumpala also took part in the agitation.
City police chief R Hitendra, who visited the spot assured the agitators to trace the miscreants and intensify security in the region. He also warned of stringent action against those who attempt to disturb peace.
