Bengaluru, Oct 18: BJP leader Jagadish Shettar has demanded the resignation of Home Minister K?J George over “the deteriorating law and order” situation in the State.
He said anti-social elements were getting emboldened under the Congress’ rule. Honest police officers are not being allowed to function, he charged.
Shettar said either George should resign on his own or the chief minister should shunt him out of his portfolio.
Attacking former IPS officer Kempaiah, who is the advisor to George, Shettar said the Home department was run by Kempaiah. He is intervening even in departmental transfers, he said.
To support his comment, Shettar said, “In the Home department’s invitation for the inauguration of a police training school in Hubballi, Kempaiah was mentioned as the chief guest. The names of other senior officers, including that of the DGP, figured in the last page. Kempaiah is just an advisor. His role is only to advise the department.”
Shettar said he had written to the chief minister and the Assembly Speaker about the breach in protocol. But there has been no response from them so far, he added.
Referring to the visit of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Shettar said the government had failed to come out with a package for distressed farmers. Farmers’ loans were not waived and compensation has not been given to the families of those farmers who committed suicide, he said.
