Bellary, Aug 13: With polling date for the by-elections to the Bellary (ST) assembly constituency fast approaching, the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a divided house.

As many as 23 leaders, including office bearers of the district unit and party's ST Morcha, have tendered their resignations in protest against the party ignoring them and their contributions towards strengthening the party.
The leaders, led by Satish Chakravarthi, secretary of the district BJP, said their main grouse was that sincere and dedicated party leaders and workers were sidelined while those who quit the party and re-joined it were given importance.
“For organising struggles and movements we are remembered, and after that we are ignored. Today, BJP is totally under the control of those who had come from the erstwhile BSR Congress, floated by B. Sriramulu. State-level BJP leaders have not been able to exercise control over the new entrants and has not been consulting dedicated party workers before taking major decisions. Fed up with such attitude of the party leaders, we have decided to quit and have sent our resignation letters to the district unit president through post,” said Mr. Chakravarthi.
“Several senior party leaders, including Santosh, organising secretary, and the former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar spoke and tried to pacify us, but we are firm on our decision,” he said, adding that they were yet to decide on their next move.
