Udupi/Kasaragod, Jul 21: The bodies of two persons who met watery graves last week in different parts of Udupi district were found on Monday.

Yogendra Devadiga (33), a resident of Gangolli, drowned in Pancha Gangavalli river at Gangolli village near Kundapur on Sunday. His body was recovered on Monday. According to the police, he had gone to the Pancha Gangavali river to fish on July 19. A case has been registered.

Search operations to trace Narayana Naik, additional sub inspector posted at the Kumbla police station, who was swept away in a swollen river near Mulleria in Kasaragod district on Saturday, failed to yield any results till now.
The rescue team, however, managed to recover the motorbike driven by Mr. Naik. The police officer had fallen into the flooded waters while crossing an overflowing bridge that did not have side walls at Kotyadi around 4 p.m., police said.
The torrential rain that had been lashing the district since Saturday claimed the life of Chandravathi, 40, at Kammadi in Panathady panchayat.
The district recorded 108.60 mm rainfall till 10 a.m. on Monday over the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative rainfall to 1132.20 mm during the season. The heavy rains over the last two days inundated several low-lying areas.
The rains during the last two days cost an estimated Rs. 1.82 crore worth damage to properties while the agrarian sector alone registered losses to the tune of Rs. 77.50 lakh.
