Mangalore, May 27: The bodies of two youth who were swept away by the current in Kumaradhara river at Nakurgaya in Kodimbala village on Sunday evening were found on Monday after an extensive search by fire department personnel and home guards.
By Sunday evening, Kadaba police registered a complaint and fire department personnel swung into action to search for the missing duo who were swept away with the river. However, an extensive search could not be conducted due to poor visibility after dusk and possibility of crocodiles being present in the river.
In the wee hours of Monday, a group of expert swimmers from Thannirbavi also joined in the search operation. By morning, the bodies of both the victims were found.
It is said that Pavan and Vijaykumar, along with his wife and child, had been to the river bank at Nakurgaya and stepped into the water for a bath. According to eye-witnesses, Vijaykumar was pulled away by the strong current of the river, along with Pavan who jumped into the water in order to rescue him. The two were swept away in seconds, it is said.
Pavan was a bachelor working as an electrician in Mangalore, while Vijayakumar was an auto-driver by profession.
