Belagavi, Oct 22: The mortal remains of CRPF jawan Umesh Helwar, who was killed in a terror act near Imphal, capital of Manipur on Saturday, was brought to his home district here on Monday.

Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister of Karnataka G Prarameshwar paid his last respects to to the martyr at Sambra Airport near here this morning. Umesh Helawar belongs to Gokak town in this North Karnataka district. He was killed when insurgents attacked a CRPF truck being loaded with groceries and other material in Imphal market meant for CRPF training center at Lamphel in Kaglatombi district of Manipur.
When the CRPF truck came under grenade attack from insurgents in the busy market area, Umesh, in a gallant act, took away a live granade thrown into the truck and ran away from the place to save many lives including those of CRPF personnel. However he was killed when it exploded. Another jawan was seriously injured in the incident.
