Ajay from Anoor village in Maddur taluk in Mandya district, had arrived at Dharmasthala on a pilgrimage with his parents on Monday.
On Tuesday, he reportedly left Dharmasthala with his parents and reached Kabaka railway station near Puttur. Having learned that the sole train back to Mandya was scheduled to depart at night, the family made its way to the bus station leaving behind Ajay at the railway station.
Apprehensive over being left alone for a long time at the railway station, Ajay began walking along the railway tracks from Kabaka and by evening, reached the railway station at Narimogaru.
Having noticed the lone boy at the station, the railway station master and informed the locals. On inquiring with the boy, the above incident came to light and the locals handed him over to Puttur police station to track his parents.
Ajay revealed that his father's name was Mahendra.
The police have begun a search for the boy's family.
