Kasaragod, Jul 29: In a novel mode of protest, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists here symbolically erected sea walls at the Thrikkannad beach, near Bekal here, on Thursday seeking lasting solution to the woes of fishers.

The protest comes in the light of damage or disappearance of several sea walls because of unscientific construction. Many of them are either buried under the sand or swept away by waters.

Both the fronts coming to power in the State had been adopting a deceptive stance on the woes of fishers, BJP district president K. Sreekanth said, inaugurating the protest in front of the famed Thrikkannad Triambakeshwara temple.

Ration cards

He warned of intensified agitation if their issues were not addressed in a time-bound manner.

The authorities should take swift and firm steps to enlist fishermen families’ ration cards in the BPL category, disburse title deeds to the residential plots, and erect sea walls on a priority basis, the party said.
