
Bengaluru, Jun 28: Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has decided to offer free WiFi at select tourist locations from July 1 to coincide with the inauguration of the Digital India programme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The first phase will see free WiFi at Cubbon Park, Lalbagh, MG Mall, Hampi and Brindavan Gardens. Trial runs are being carried out at these locations,” said P Nagaraju, Chief General Manager, Karnataka Telecom Circle, BSNL.
“The service will be free for the first 30 minutes in a day, for a maximum of three occasions in a month for a mobile number.
“After this, the tariff will be Rs. 30 for 30 minutes, Rs. 50 for an hour, Rs. 90 for two hours and Rs. 150 for a day.”
Billing will be based on the time and not the amount of data downloaded, BSNL officials said adding that the free WiFi will be accompanied by 4G facility.
Officials of the company said that the service would be gradually extended to 330 locations across the State with preference being given to tourist destinations.
