Sullia, Mar 30: In 2013 assembly polls BJP candidate S Angara had defeated Congress candidate Dr Raghu by a thin margin of around 800 votes in Sullia constituency of Dakshina Kannnada district. It was fifth victory for Angara and second defeat for Dr Raghu after quitting a government job.

Though Sullia is considered as a BJP bastion for many years, recent surveys had predicted a favorable atmosphere for Congress as voters in the constituency also are seeking change. However, the entry of Bahujan Samaj Party backed by Janata Dal (Secular) is like to ensure the sixth victory of Angara.
G. Srinivas, the South Karnataka in-charge of BSP told media persons that JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy also has assured support for BSP candidate in Sullia in accordance with the pre-poll alliance. He said the BSP will contest in 20 of the total 224 seats, with JD (S) support. The names of candidates will be announced within a week, he added.
