Mangaluru, Jul 1: Burglars struck half-a-dozen shops and a photo studio under the Konaje police station limits and decamped with cash and valuables worth over Rs 5 lakh.
The serial theft occurred in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday at the shops located near the Ladies Hostel of Mangalore University.
A small studio owned by local photo journalist Apul Alva Ira was also targeted by the burglars. He was left poorer by Rs 2 lakh as thieves made good with three SLR cameras.
Mobile phones, chargers and other valuables worth Rs 2 lakh were stolen from a mobile phone shop belonging to one Sahal.
Mobile phones worth Rs 20,000 were stolen from another mobile phone shop owned by one Harish.
Minor thefts occurred in a Xerox shop owned by Ravi, grocery shop owned by Mohammed NK, a bakery owned by Sadiq and Ideal Juice Centre.
The thieves gained entry into most of the shops by breaking open the rolling shutters.
They also have used chemicals to mislead finger print experts, police sources said. A team of police and finger print experts visited the spot in the morning and conducted investigation.
