Bengaluru, Oct 15: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday underlined that the November 3 by-election to three Lok Sabha seats in the State is a semifinal for next year general election.

"The outcome will be a yardstick for the performance of Congress-JDS coalition government in the State and it will prove whether the coalition is 'pure' or 'opportunistic' as termed by the opposition BJP", he added.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Kumaraswamy alleged that "the BJP was criticising the coalition government as unholy and both the parties have joined hands only to deny power to them and the government is yet to take off."
Expressing confidence of Congress-JDS combine winning all the five seats (3 Lok Sabha and 2 Assembly) in the by-election, Mr Kumaraswamy said that "voters will give befitting reply to BJP in the by-election. I hope after that the saffron party will stop making unnecessary criticism with unparliamentary words.".
He said that "we had not expected byelection since general election to Lok Sabha was due early next year. Even BJP was also not in favour of election just for six months period. However, though it was imposed by the Election Commission, we are prepared to face the election."
