Dubai, May 31: Canara Business Forum (CBF), a business networking forum for prominent entrepreneurs and businessmen from the coastal region of Karnataka state, was formally launched at a function in Dubai World Trade Centre in UAE on Saturday.
Visualized by a group of likeminded individuals, the Forum was launched with a view of promoting diverse levels of entrepreneurial engagements with long term perspectives. Around 200 Muslim businessmen from Mangaluru, Udupi and Bhatkal regions of Karnataka took part in the event.
S M Syed Khalil, the chairman of KK Enterprises and mentor of the Forum, speaking on the occasion said that an ad-hoc working committee would be formed shortly, so that the Forum could be officially registered in Mangaluru.
He said that the Forum was conceptualised to bring all the NRI businessmen from coastal Karnataka together with the aim to create a platform for business opportunities and growth.
“The CBF aims to create a platform of belonging and understanding, with the underlying core values of knowledge, confidence, trust and mutual benefit,” he said.
Yenepoya Abdullah Kunhi, Chancellor, Yenepoya University, expressed his pleasure at the launch of the new Forum and said that it would bring all Muslim NRI businessmen under a single platform.
Syed Mohammed Beary, chairman, Bearys Group, said that the success of the Muslim community lies in interest-free business. The benefits received from the financial schemes announced by the government for minorities should be utilised fully. Although the government announces schemes for minorities, over half of the grants are sent back without being utilised by beneficiaries. Hence, such schemes should be utilised by people for the development of the community, he said.
Mohammed Asif, CEO of Amaco Group of Companies said that there is a need to take steps for the overall development of the new generation of the community.
Khalid Noor Mohammed and Asif Mirza, businessmen from Bengaluru, shared their thoughts and views in the programme. It was decided in the inaugural programme that the next meeting of the forum would be held on August 16 in Mangaluru.
On the occasion, Motisham Group Managing Director S M Arshad, NRI businessmen Zakariya Bajpe, Mohammed Ameen H H, H M Afroz Assadi, Mansoor Ahmed from Azad Group, Siraj Ahmed from Inland Builders, S M Rasheed from SMR Group, Mohammed Haaris, H K Khasim, B M Mumtaz Ali, Dr U T Iftikar, Dr B K Yusuf, M E Muloor and several others participated in the programme.
The objectives of the Forum include business networking; promote new business ventures and joint ventures across India, GCC and beyond; enhance corporate governance and management standards through awareness and knowledge sharing programmes; affiliate to other leading business forums and networks thereby expanding the reach of the members; set new standards in human resource development through education and skill development, career guidance and placement portals; develop a comprehensive CSR structure.
