New Delhi, Aug 15: PM Narendra Modi delivered his first Independence Day address from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort on Friday.
He asked the nation to eschew caste or communal violence as stalled the growth of the nation. "Let us affirm that we will be free from these tensions," Narendra Modi said.
Earlier, he had arrived at the Red Fort and hoisted the National Flag from there. In the course of his speech, he tried to address a wide-range of issues before the nation. Some of the highlights of his speech:
Wage a war against poverty. Let us defeat poverty. PM seeks cooperation from neighbouring and SAARC nations to jointly tackle poverty.
