Bengaluru, Jun 19: The families of fire personnel, who die during a rescue operation, will get a compensation of Rs 30 lakh each, instead of Rs 10 lakh as at present, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said.

“The fire fighters put their lives at risk while saving others. They work in the most dangerous of situations and they should be rewarded appropriately,” he said.
Siddaramaiah said that the fire personnel working during holidays will get an allowance of Rs 400, instead of Rs 200 at present. Also, the government is planning to set up canteens for fire personnel, similar to police canteens. The daily allowance for Home Guards will be increased to Rs 400 from Rs 300.
It is the government’s ambition to set up fire stations in every taluk. Now, 155 taluks have fire stations and 22 new stations have been proposed. Aerial ladders up to 90 metres in height will be acquired, as there are several high-rise buildings coming up. These ladders will help fight fire disasters at high-rise buildings, he said.
Kishore Chandra, DGP, Fire department, said, “There are several posts vacant in the Fire department and we request the government to fill them”.
As many as 88 personnel from Fire, Home Guards and Civil Defence units received the CM’s gold medal on the occasion.
