Mangaluru, Jun 8: The Coastal Guard, which is gearing up for monsoon, when the sea condition will be rough, has asked water sports operators along the Karnataka coast to stop their operations for a few months.

“They should also ensure even loading and proper securing of the cargo. Frequent rounds of the ships should be undertaken. Maintenance and upkeep of the machinery and propulsion systems should be undertaken as per schedule. The second anchor and chain cable should be kept standby in case of the merchant vessels at anchorage,” he said in a release.
It said that the merchant vessels have been requested to participate in the search and rescue system and update their particulars. In addition, they should keep their automatic identification system on at all time. In case of emergency, they should contact the shipping agency or the Coast Guard. The master should ensure the safety drill and evacuation knowledge to the crew.
The release said that the old Port, Mangaluru would remain closed during the monsoon till September 15. The dhows would not be venturing out to sea. However, any dhows operating at sea should also keep the owner and agents informed. Fishing ban imposed for all mechanised boats would be in force till July 31.
