Mangaluru, Aug 4: Investigations into the suicide of a 16-year-old girl in Uppinangady on the outskirts of the city, has revealed that the reason for the college student's extreme step was that her grandfather had asked her to avoid using mobile phone.

The minor girl, who hailed from Madikeri, was staying with her grandparents at Hosamajalu in Uppinangady to pursue her education.
As she was spending a lot of time over the phone paying little attention to studies, her grandfather allegedly took her to task and asked her to delete her WhatsApp account.
Depressed over this, she decided to kill herself. On Tuesday, the girl skipped college and stayed at home. When her grandparents went to the market for shopping, she committed suicide by hanging herself in a wash-room.
A case has been registered at Uppinangady Police Station.
