Hostel life: A must venture

June 14, 2010

Hostel is a place totally different from home. If you've never stayed at a hostel before and you're planning to essentially live in hostels for weeks or months, you might like to know what you can expect during your "Hostel Life" experience.

Hostel life is entirely different from life at home. Parents wish to send their children to hostel so that they are away from homely pleasure and learn to live and grow on their own. Hostel life provides the most ideal atmosphere to study. Even a happy-go-lucky or negligent student starts working hard when he sees his roommate or neighbour competing for position. This happened to me, when I began to live in a hostel.

Hostel life is best for students, as from this, they come to know how to deal with different problems and how to deal with this world.... as in a hostel you come across different kinds of people, you will be better prepared to interact with the people once you get into the outside world after college days. Moreover it will teach you to take decisions on your own without relying on others. It will make you much more courageous and confident to face life.

Sleeping could be of a slight problem if you are a light sleeper. People tend to snore, come in and out of the room at all hours, turn the lights on and off in the middle of the night and in general be disruptive to a good night's sleep. I must say I hardly ever had any problem sleeping in hostels. Reason? I used to get tired at the end of each day and I would sleep like a rock most nights.

In hostel life, a student may learn many good qualities after coming into contact with many other students from different cultures, states and walks of life. The students are always in contact with people of their own age and who have varied aptitudes and tastes. In hostel life, students learn a lot from mutual discussions. Whether it is the political scene of the country or the criticism of a latest picture seen by them or about their favorite heroine or her or about a cricket match or favorite sportspersons, every discussion becomes lively and a source of unlimited information and knowledge.

Further, whenever any student falls ill, all other students take good care of him/her and provide the help you need. Not forgetting the fun that the students have there, the sorrows that are shared, the tears that are shed, teasing, embracing, understanding, patiently listening, fighting, jumping over the fence to get into the hostel without anyone knowing – it’s part of the hostel life.

Hostel is a place where we learn a lot of things and to conduct ourselves. We do not feel lonely, as many students are there to give us company. Homesickness should not bother you for it is a home away from home.
