Mangaluru, Jan 15: Mangaluru city police commissioner Chandra Sekhar along with his men raided the district prison in Mangaluru on Friday.
A screw driver, mobile phones, a few ganja packets were recovered among other items during the raid intended to curb illegal activities inside the prison. However, no lethal weapons have been recovered.
Chandra Sekhar said that despite deploying with 26 personnel of Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) some things have been smuggled inside prison.
"KSISF has been able to bring down certain cases to a large extent from past one month and such raid will continue in coming days," he added.
Around 60-70 police personnel including DCPs, ACPs and Sub-Inspectors, Canine squad raided the jail on Friday morning. After a thorough inspection, they recovered a dozen mobile phones, SIM cards, mobile batteries, chargers, a screw driver and several packets of ganja.
According to sources jail inmates from whom the things were seized were shifted to different cells. Jail authorities from Mangaluru District Jail refused to comment.
