Mangalore, Mar 26: More thought needs to be given towards introducing inter-disciplinary approach in college campuses, said Dr. M M Pallam Raju, Union Minister of Human Resource Development.
He was speaking at a programme held at Justice K S Hegde Medical Academy, Deralakatte, on Tuesday.
Although many disciplines of study have made considerable progress, a set of disciplines are being neglected. Inter-disciplinary approach in campuses will help in plugging this gap, Mr. Raju said.
The Minister stressed on the need to give equal importance to imparting education in terms of developing vocational skills along with academics. “Skill-sets which could be deployed anywhere in the world need to be taught”, Mr. Raju opined while pointing out that strengthening outreach programmes in educational institutions is also something that needs to be given impetus.
Mr. Raju inaugurated the Leela Narayan Shetty Memorial Cancer Institute and Dr. N V Adyanthaya Research and Super Specialty Block of the Justice K S Hegde Hospital on the occasion. Among the various facilities inaugurated on the occasion include a spohesticated 'Skill Lab', Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, additional Operation Theatres and an ICU Complex, and extended Accident and Emergency Department.
Dr. N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte University, N Santhosh Hegde, Former Karnataka Lokayukta, Dr. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte University, Dr. Narayan Shetty, Cardiologist, Pittsburg, USA, Dr. S Ramananda Shetty, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University, were among the dignitaries present.
