Kolar, Jun 2: A pack of stray dogs, three of them said to be rabid, attacked 14 children playing in front of their homes in Shahenshah Nagar, here on Wednesday.

The other 11 children received treatment at the SNR District Hospital.
Eyewitnesses pelted stones and brandished sticks to rescue the children. Though the strays fled, three rabid dogs turned on the people chasing them, eyewitnesses said. The crowd used stone slabs to bludgeon the dogs to death.
There are many butcher shops in the vicinity and the waste thrown onto the streets from these shops attract stray dogs. Earlier, the dogs have attacked riders and passersby.
Numerous complaints to the municipal authorities about the dog attacks and the reckless disposal of waste on the streets have gone unheard, said the local residents and parents of the injured children.
City Municipal Council Commissioner Lakshminarayana said the incident had occurred in the morning when the children were playing in a group.
Kolar Deputy Commissioner K V Thrilok Chandra said he had instructed all municipalities in the district to call for tenders to perform animal birth control.

seriously this stray dogs must be shifted to the jungle, in mangalore also we cant walk on the street because of the dogs. dogs try to attack while riding a bike..
