Mangaluru, Sep 22: A fresh development in Dr K Shivarama Karanth Government College in Bellare, Sullia taluk, has hinted at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's direct involvement in the anti-hijab agitation launched by a group of students nearly a month ago.

For past two days, the saffron clad students of the college have been reportedly conducting Sangh Shakha' or the daily meetings of RSS within the college premises. According to sources, over 50 students with saffron shawls have been taking part in such activities.

Chandrashekar Kantamangala, the principal of the college, has confirmed that such activities have been going on since Tuesday. “This is a matter of concern. I am currently on leave as I am not well. I will soon return to the college and take necessary action,” he said.

On the other hand, one of the students who has been at the forefront of the saffron shawl protest against hijab, rubbished reports of Shaka activities on campus. "On Tuesday, we organised a prayer to pay homage to the Uri martyrs, after which we sang patriotic songs. It was not a Shaka activity," he said.

Affirming that their protest would continue till students stopped wearing hijabs inside the campus, he added, "Now, even girls have started wearing saffron shawls over their dress."

The college, which also offers post-graduation courses, boasts a total of 495 students. Among them only a couple of dozen students are Muslims and a majority of them are girls.

Some undergraduate and postgraduate students of the college have been sporting saffron shawls since August 29. The students, who apparently vow allegiance to Hindutva groups, want the college to bar a lecturer and some Muslim girls from wearing a hijab on the campus.

Earlier this month a meeting was convened in the college in the presence of Sullia MLA S Angara to find an amicable solution to the problem. Representatives of the students, lecturers and all stakeholders had participated. However, agitation continued even after the meeting.

In a press statement Mr Angara had suggested that those seeking admission to the college would have to follow a 'uniform' code, while those not willing, would be denied admission. "We cannot enforce a dress code within college premises since it is a government institution," Mr Kantamangala said.

Unfortunately the Safronists are using children.

Muslim girls are using Hijab as their religiously bound part of dress code, They also look very respected and decent.
It is their choice to wear,

If you people want to use it, you can also use. If you don't want it is upto you. But you don't have right to talk about other's personnel matters.

May God give wisdom to these corrupt brains.

Saffron is the symbol of pride and sacrifice. head scarf or hijab is the symbol of subjugation. It also represents pakistan, the enemy of India. These factors are enough to take a bold decision for people with common sense.

These are all C grade students who's future lies in Bajrang Dal/VHP and BJP. They are just trying to build their career. Let them do. A day will come when people start ignoring them and their own children will start mocking them.

Mangaluru: In a decisive move to tackle the city’s deteriorating sanitation infrastructure, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has announced a massive ₹1,200 crore action plan to overhaul its underground drainage (UGD) network.

The initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV, aims to bridge "missing links" in the current system that have left residents grappling with overflowing sewage and environmental hazards.

The Breaking Point

The announcement follows a high-intensity phone-in session on Thursday, where the DC was flooded with grievances from frustrated citizens. Residents, including Savithri from Yekkur, described a harrowing reality: raw sewage from apartments leaking into stormwater drains, creating a "permanent stink" and turning residential zones into mosquito breeding grounds.

"We are facing immense difficulties due to the stench and the health risks. Local officials have remained silent until now," one resident reported during the session.

The Strategy: A Six-Year Vision

DC Darshan HV confirmed that the proposed plan is not a temporary patch but a comprehensive six-year roadmap designed to accommodate Mangaluru’s projected population growth. Key highlights of the plan include:

•    Infrastructure Expansion: Laying additional pipelines to connect older neighborhoods to the main grid.

•    STP Crackdown: Stricter enforcement of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) regulations. While new apartments are required to have functional STPs, many older buildings lack them entirely, and several newer units are reportedly non-functional.

•    Budgetary Push: The plan has already been discussed with the district in-charge minister and the Secretary of the Urban Development Department. It is slated for formal presentation in the upcoming state budget.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.
