A case has been registered against Girish, the administrator of Kumbhashree English Medium School at Venoor police station. He is reportedly at large.

The 14-year-old girl, who suffered injuries due to corporal punishment, has been shifted from the Government Hospital in Belthangady to the Government Wenlock Hospital in the city after her condition deteriorated and she started vomiting blood on Monday.

Childline Mangaluru co-ordinator Sampath Katti said that the decision to shift her to Mangaluru was taken after she suffered chest pain and vomited blood.

It is learnt that on September 23 Girish hit on the girl's head with a ruler and then banged her head against the wall for “poor academic performance”.

Katti said the girl had suffered injuries on her head after the headmaster of the school allegedly beat her.

As a result, she had five stitches on her head and a blood clot was also found on her hand. It was revealed during preliminary investigation that she was beaten on earlier occasion too, but no complaint had been lodged as both the parties ended in a compromise, he said.

The latest incident occurred on September 23 around 12 midnight at the hostel of the school soon after she completed a home work. It is said that Girish, who normally forces students in the hostel to study till 1 a.m., was not happy with her homework.

The student hails from poor family of Kerala and her parents cannot speak Kannada. The girl stays in the school hostel. It is also alleged that several students from the hostel are also beaten up. The Childline that received the information on Saturday have informed the police so that the girl's statement is recorded at Venur police station, he added.

It is worth mentioning here that nearly two decades ago residents of Venoor had staged a protest against the same Girish for allegedly raping a girl.

Cheddis have an opportunity to show their hindutuva savior to the poor girl but they are silent... They will not meddle in such social commitment which will eliminate the criminals in the society.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
