Mangaluru, Nov 7: At least six taxi drivers suffered injuries in a clash between the representatives of Online Taxi Operators Association and Airport Taxi Association at the Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
The clash comes a few days ahead of an online taxi aggregator set to begin cab services at the Airport.
Members of the Online Taxi Operators Association (Ola and Uber cab drivers), led by B K Imtiyaz, came in different vehicles from the airport exit route to meet the director of the airport.
The association members wanted to give a representation to the director against the Airport Taxi Association members not allowing online taxi operators to operate from the airport.
Just as they were entering the vehicle parking area, the representatives of Airport Taxi Association reportedly waylaid them and the two groups had had a heated exchange of words. This led to a clash between them resulting in three persons from each group getting injured.
While three injured persons were admitted to the Government Wenlock Hospital, the other three were admitted to a private hospital. A few taxis were damaged.
The Bajpe Police have registered complaints by the two associations.
Meanwhile, director of the airport V.V. Rao said that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued work order to ANI Technologies Pvt. Ltd. to operate its Ola Cabs at the airport. It has been selected through bidding. Some official formalities are being completed by the company now. It would begin its services soon.
