Belagavi: Jul 1: JD(S) floor leader H D Kumaraswamy said on Tuesday that farmers were not committing suicide to get compensation from the government for their kin, but because they were unable to face the humiliation by debtors who had given them loans.

Sugar factories have not cleared the dues of farmers for the sugar cane supplied during 2013-14 and 2014-15.
What action will the government take if factories refuse to crush sugar cane in the next season commencing in September, he asked.
Kumaraswamy urged the government to clear the dues of farmers from its coffers and recover the money from the sale of seized sugar.
He said, during 2013-14, the government had waived taxes to help the factories pay state advisory price and this year, too, the government should think about it. Sugar cane byproducts bring huge revenue to the government, the former chief minister said.
Kumaraswamy asked the government to increase the blending of ethanol with petroleum products that would help sugar factories increase their revenue and pay better prices to farmers.
