Bengaluru, Jul 16: The Congress leaders, who are making best efforts to save the 13-month-old JD(S)-Congress coalition government Karnataka, following the resignations of 16 rebel Congress and the JD(S) MLAs, are divided on the issue of seeking disqualification of the disgruntled MLAs.
According to top party sources, while some of the senior Congress leaders are strongly in favor of punishing the defaint MLAs who created the crisis of instability of the government that has sought a floor vote on July 18, some others are however, reportedly, opposing such a move to invoke schedule 10 of the Anti Defection Law.
Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara and the KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao, continued their final efforts asking the rebels to relent and also at the same time informed them of the strong action that may lead to their disqualification for six years against contesting any polls or hold public office.
