Mangaluru, Oct 20: Reiterating that the Moodbidri murder plot was hatched and executed by a few individual miscreants over personal animosity, Mangaluru city police chief has warned against spreading baseless rumours and false messages on WhatsApp and other social media to disrupt peace in the society.

“I was shocked to read some of the WhatsApp messages. Through such false messages and lies, some miscreants are trying to disrupt peace and harmony in Mangaluru, which is known as communally sensitive city,” he said.
Asked whether the eight persons arrested in connection with Prashant Poojary murder case belonged to any organisation, the commissioner said that there is proof for the allegation about involvement of any outfit in the murder case.
“We have no proof of their allegiance to any organisation. But, they had personal animosity with the murdered Bajrang Dal activist,” he said.
He also expressed shock over some rumour-based media reports. “Unfortunately some media are also publishing false reports. Media should act responsibly. You should not treat facts and rumours equally,” he said.
“We warn those who are misusing WhatsApp and other social media to create fear, tension and unrest in the society of stringent action,” Mr Murgan said urging the people not to pay attention to any such rumours.
