Bengaluru, Jul 24: Cracking the whip on overcharging auto-rickshaw drivers, the west division traffic police seized around 100 autos from in and around the city market area for refusing to go on hire or charging excess fare. This was part of a special drive conducted by a team of policemen in mufti on Thursday morning.

“Through this drive, we want to send a strong message that violations of any kind would not be tolerated. Autorickshaw drivers, who are part of the public transport service, could not shy away from their duties,” the official said.
The drivers have been booked for multiple violations since over 60 per cent of the offenders did not have driving license and other valid permits to ply. “We were receiving a lot of complaints from commuters regarding autorickshaw drivers refusing to go on hire or demanding excess fare.
The drive, which began at around 6.30 a.m., concluded at around 8.30 a.m. The traffic cops deployed in mufti caught as many as 100 autorickshaw drivers for violating traffic rules and have been booked for multiple offences,” said S. Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic west).
