Mangaluru, May 11: Urging the Dakshina Kannada district administration to make public the medical report of the nursery student of Mangalore One School, Thokkottu, who was allegedly subjected to sexual abuse by a school van driver, members of United Muslim Organisation, Dakshina Kannada have given the district administration an ultimatum of ten days to fulfill their demand.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Monday, convenor of the organisation K Ashraf said that nearly two months had passed after the child had been sexually assaulted, but no medical report had been placed forward with by the district administration or the police department so far. There is a growing suspicion that the police department is trying to cover up the case instead of taking any action against the management of Mangalore One School, due to the fact that the director of the school is a retired IGP.
Moreover, the police department is hesitant to reveal the contents of the medical and investigation report under the pretext of preventing any communal clashes arising out of the issue. However, there is nothing communal related to the incident or the victim, he said.
He accused the fact-finding committee formed by the deputy commissioner of being biased against the victim and her family, pointing that the mother of the child had claimed that her statement had not been recorded by the committee.
As an urgent measure, an independent fact-finding committee was formed by the organisation – consisting of nine members – to go through the details of the case, which recorded the statements of the victim’s parents, Lady Goschen Hospital, Mangalore One School management, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru and parents of other children studying in the school.
He said that failure by the district administration to reveal the contents of the medical report would invariably result in a protest by the organisation in front of the deputy commissioner’s office, followed by a hunger strike in front of the school premises.
He also demanded that the school management should take cognizance of the crime and take responsibility for it.
