The police said that three powerful crude bombs were seized from a homestead of an uninhabited house at Muzhakkunnu, near Iritty, here in the morning.

The area has been tense following the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker M. Bineesh on September 3. The bombs were found beneath a heap of bricks, the police said.

The police also recovered three more crude bombs from Pallikkunnu here in the afternoon. The police said that the bombs were found in a compound close to a local temple at Pallikkunnu. The police had unearthed two crude bombs from a nearby plot on Wednesday.

The police said that Pathiriyad here, where a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was stabbed late night on September 7, observed a hartal in protest against the stabbing of another BJP worker Navjith. He has been admitted to a hospital in Kozhikode with serious stab injuries in his legs and hands, the police said. The BJP alleged that the attack was carried out by CPI(M) workers. Mangaluru, Jan 31: A Class 9 student of a private high school, here, ended his life after being reprimanded by his mother over excessive usage of mobile phone.

The deceased has been identified as Jnanesh (14), son of Jagadish and Vinaya couple residing at Red Bricks Apartments at Kotimura, Padavu B village on the outskirts of the city.

The boy was reportedly addicted to mobile and was spending a lot of time playing mobile games every day.

On Monday, January 30, his mother lost cool and scolded him for his mobile addiction. She also asked him to keep mobile away and take bath immediately.

As he did not return for a long time, his father Jagadish peeped from the window of the bathroom and saw that Jnanesh had hanged himself to the ceiling.

Even though he was brought down and the veil used for hanging was cut, Jnanesh had breathed his last.

A case has been registered at Kankanady city police station.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Conveying his "best wishes" to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday complimented him for fighting hatred and violence by spreading the message of harmony among people.

The JD(S) supremo has also expressed his inability to participate in the concluding function of the Yatra in Srinagar on January 30.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has invited leaders of several like-minded parties to join the concluding function in Srinagar.

In a letter to Kharge, thanking for the invitation, Gowda said, "It is appropriate that the function is being organised on the day the father of the nation (Mahatma Gandhi) attained martyrdom."

"I may not be able to attend the function in person, but my best wishes are with Rahul Gandhi. He is fighting hatred and violence and has walked 3,500 kms from Kanyakumari to Kashmir spreading the message of harmony among people.

Please convey my deep appreciation to him," the 89-year-old leader said.

Fazil.jpg

Mangaluru, Jan 30: After Vhishwa Hindu Parsishad leader Sharan Pumpwell openly claimed that Hindutva activists killed innocent Muslim youth Mohammed Fazil in retaliation for the murder of Hindutva leader Praveen Nettaru, Fazil’s father Umar Farooq has urged the Commissioner of Police N Shashi Kumar to arrest  the former immediately.

Sharan Pumpwell during a programme in Tumakur and in Ullal last weekend had claimed that Fazil’s murder in Surathkal was retaliation for the murder of Praveen Nettaru in Sullia.

“Why police is not arresting Sharan Pumpwell despite his brazen confession in public,” asked the elderly man, who lost his young son to communal terrorists.

In a memorandum submitted to the Commissioner of Police N Shashi Kumar in Mangaluru on Monday, he said that Pumpwell should be arrested and interrogated, Farooq.

“Sharan Pumpwell has more information on the death of my son. Hence, he should be arrested immediately,” he said.

Fazil, a resident of Mangalapete in Katipalla in Surathkal was brutally killed in front of a shop in Surathkal on July 28, 2022.
