Mangaluru, Jan 4: A tragedy was averted by grounding an Air India flight after it suffered a crack in the windshield of its cockpit recently at Mangaluru International Airport.

œThe pilot noticed the crack and grounded the aircraft immediately for repair. Engineers flown in from New Delhi replaced the windshield, said Air India Mangaluru station manager Nagesh Shetty.
While 103 passengers were sent on a diverted Air India flight from Bengaluru to Mumbai on Thursday, 47 went to Delhi on the repaired aircraft on Friday.
Nine international passengers who had their connecting flights were sent by Jet Airways on Thursday to Mumbai. Seven international passengers who had their connecting flights from Mumbai on Friday were sent by an Air India Express flight to Muscat and Dubai.
The Delhi-Mumbai-Mangaluru flight had landed here at 12.15pm on Thursday. It's not known how the windshield developed a crack.
