
Dammam, May 2: Cricket tournaments are routine part of life for NRIs in Saudi Arabia. But this match was something special thanks to the presence of Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader as the inaugurator and player!
Audience erupted in a roar of applause when the popular minister entered the crease as opening batsman for team Amaco along with Asif Amaco at the final math of the Shirva Summer Cup.
The knockout cricket tournament was organized by Shirva Welfare Association (SWA) at Dammam on Friday. Salman of SABSA was the sponsor while Amaco Group was the cosponsor.
The final match was played between two powerful teams - United Lanka and Amaco. United Lanka won the toss and opted to field first.
The match began on a splendid note as the opener Mr Khader exhibited his batting skill before NRI audience. He contributed 13 runs including a splendid four in eight balls. Team Amaco scored 48 runs losing nine wickets in allotted eight over.
Chasing the average score, United Lanka punished Amaco bowlers and reached the winning target of 49 runs in seven overs. A smile blossomed on the faces of team members when they lifted the Shirva Summer Cup. Prizes were distributed at the end of the match.
