Bantwal, Jun 2: Muhammed Mustafa from Bantwal taluk, who died in a road mishap in Muscat last week, was buried in his hometown Parliya near B C Road.
Hundreds of mourners from the village took part in the funeral of Mustafa who was known to have a dedicated and hardworking outlook.
Employed in a hospital in Muscat, Mustafa, son of Late Abdul Ghani, had been travelling in a taxi cab when it was rammed head-on by an oncoming official car on Thursday. Gravely injured, Mustafa breathed his last on the spot.
Already reeling from poverty, Mustafa's family had previously lost two male family members including his father. This put the burden of providing a livelihood for the entire family on Mustafa. Now, with the sudden and untimely death of Mustafa, the remaining family members, being poor, had decided to bury his body in Muscat.
However, several relatives of the family, along with a few NRIs in Muscat, made the necessary arrangements to bring the body back to India on Sunday afternoon.
Family left penniless
Among the two sons and three daughters of Late Abdul Ghani, the eldest son Abdul Latheef passed away around five years ago due to a kidney ailment.
Mustafa's mother, suffering from ill health, has been bedridden from a long period of time. Two of the younger daughters have been married off and staying with their husbands. The eldest daughter, who also had been married, returned home owing to her being slightly mentally-challenged.
With these problems, Mustafa had become the sole breadwinner for the family, and had travelled to Muscat in Oman to earn a living. However, due to his unfortunate demise, his family is pushed further into the shackles of poverty. The future looks bleak for the family as they are left without any financial support.
