
Mangalore, Nov 2: Pejawar Seer Vishweshatheertha Swamiji has said that declaring cow as the national animal has become important and imperative at this juncture.
Inaugurating'Go-Premi Vedike' under the aegis of Go-Vanithashraya Trust at Sharada Vidyalaya in Mangalore on Friday, he said that conservation and protection of cattle is not just confined to religious sentiments, it has strong humanitarian overtones to it.
“The government is showing special interest in conserving tiger and lion. But, when it comes to cattle the government is exhibiting lethargy. This in some way shows that the government is supportive of cow slaughter,” he said adding that India is exporting large quantity of beef and the government is supporting this trade by extending subsidy in various forms.
Subramanya Mutt Sri Vidyaprasanna Theertha offered prayers to cattle. Kamadhenu Trust, Bangalore Managing Director Shailesh Holla delivered keynote address. Office-bearers of the Vedike Manohar Tulajaram, L Shridhar Bhat, P Ananthakrishna Bhat, Prof M B Puranik among others were present.
