Hosapete, Mar 26: Minister for Major and Medium Industries R.V. Deshpande has exhorted young entrepreneurs include non-resident Indians across the world to innovate, invent and invest in Karnataka.
Speaking after inaugurating a two-day business summit, organised by the Department of Industries and Commerce in association with the district administration here on Saturday, Mr. Deshpande said that for the State and the nation to progress more industries had to come up and business, agriculture and horticulture had to grow.
“Karnataka has a lot of potential and appeal to the entrepreneurs, particularly the budding ones, to tap it and set up their units in the State,” he said.
According to him, Karantaka was the only State to come out with policies that were investor-friendly to suit various sectors, be it industrialisation, IT & BT, tourism and agro-processing among other things.
To ensure that entrepreneurs set up their industries, the State government had come out with a investor friendly policies with an aim to get huge investments and also employment generation. and wanted the entrepreneurs to take advantage of it.
“There is scope for as many as 400 startups in Ballari district. Local budding entrepreneurs should come forward to innovate, invent and invest. In turn, Karnataka would extend all assistance to those keen to come forward to take it as a challenge,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Ramprasath Manohar, in his preliminary remarks, said that the summit was organised to encourage and extend all kinds of help to the budding entrepreneurs to set up their units, provide them the necessary skill development training, resolve the problems faced by the existing units among other units.
Set up alternative industry, Arcelor Mittal told
Mr?Deshpande said that steel major Arcelor Mittal had been told to send a proposal for setting up an alternative industry in the district.
This is due to the Supreme Court direction that only companies already having steel plants could take part in the ore auction process.
The minister said the company had planned to set up a solar power plant. The matter would be discussed at the meeting of the high-level clearance committee, he said. The company had been advised to set up an industry that has more employment opportunities, Deshpande said.
Arcelor Mittal had been sanctioned 4,800 acres near Ballari for a steel plant at the Global Investors Meet in 2010. Of this, the firm had been handed over 2,796 acres.
