Kasargod, Nov 20: Imam Hussein (53), accused in the killing of couple from Kasargod about two decades ago has been declared guilty on November 19 and the verdict in the case will be given on November 21 by the District Additional Sessions Court.
Mr Hussein from Jannathgalli in Sagar had murdered Sri Krishna Bhat (45) and his wife Srimathi (35), residents of Devaloka-Perla on October 9, 1993.
While Sri Krishna Bhat was buried in the backyard of his house, his wife was stabbed to death inside the house.
The accused had then fled with the ornaments at home.
Surprisingly the accused had taken the couple to confidence by concocting cock ad bull stories about treasury in the backyard of the couple's house, which could be claimed by making use of black magic.
Mr Bhat was buried in the same pit, which was dug by them to get the treasury out.
Case was registered at Badiyadka police station and despite several attempts the police could not nab the culprit.
However, the criminal had left behind a clue for the police at the crime scene. Hussein's visiting card which was recovered by the police from the crime scene ultimately led them to him.
The case was handed over to Calicut CBI Division and finally Hussein was nabbed after 19 years, in 2012 at Nelamangala near Bangalore.
The case was posed before the Court for hearing from February 22 and after hearing 68 witnesses, statement of 39 witnesses were registered by the Court.
On November 19, when the Court pronounced that Hussein was guilty, Muralikrishna, Niranjan and Sudarshan, three sons of the Bhat couple were present at the Court.
“We are happy with the verdict of the Court,” said Niranjan.
