Mangalore, Apr 23: Veteran Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhan Poojary has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to sanction a sum of Rs 15 crore to develop the famous Sayyid Madani Dargah of Ullal into a tourist centre.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said that the Ullal Dargah had been attracting devotees from all religions not only from Karnataka but other states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu who throng the historic shrine in large numbers.
The Dargah is known for its social endeavors and the CM should take measures to provide all necessary facilities to the shrine and develop the surrounding areas for the convenience of the devotees, he said.
He also urged the CM to send a proposal to the Centre towards developing the tourism sector in Dakshina Kannada.
‘Will not allow land-grabbing’
Mr Poojary criticised the Central government for batting for the amended land acquisition bill through an ordinance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being dictatorial and wants to handover land belonging to farmers to multinational corporate companies for their benefit. If the existing land acquisition bill is amended, lands will be snatched from farmers without their permission, he stressed, warning that the Congress party would not allow the NDA alliance to grab lands from the farmers in the country.
He also warned of initiating a huge movement in the district if the law ordinance was passed.
Former Mayor Mahabala Marla, Congress leader P V Mohan and others were present.
