Mangalore, Jun 21: Dakshina Kannada district president of Janata Dal (Secular) M B Sadashiva, who had faced severe revolt within the district unit of the party during recent Karnataka Assembly elections, has resigned from his post.
Mr Sadashiva, who was at the helm of the party in the coastal district for six years, told media persons that his decision was due to personal reasons.
“I am resigning because of “personal reasons” and not because of differences or pressure by factions,” he said adding that he would continue to be affiliated with the party.
“The party has not yet accepted my resignation to the State committee. However, my resignation is final,” he said.
He further said that the decision to support Social Democratic Party of India candidate in Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency in recent general elections was taken by the central committee of JD(S) and not by the district unit.
“The decision to support SDPI was taken by the Central committee and not us. I am not responsible for the alliance. It isn 't right to blame the party members or leaders," he said. SDPI-JD(S) alliance had mustered barely 27,000 votes in Dakshina Kannada.
Mr Sadashiva said that until a new president is appointed, JD(S) district working president Mohammed Kunhi would lead the party in the district.
