Mangalore, Aug 8: Muhammad Imad, a two-year-old boy who was attacked by stray dogs at Mohiuddin Nagar in Kudroli on Thursday, is recuperating in a hospital in Attavar here.
Doctors at the Attavar hospital said that the condition of the child was stable. The child was in the operation theatre where his wounds were cleaned.
Immunoglobulin was being injected to help the boy develop resistance to rabies. The boy will be under observation for the next two days, the doctors said.
Mohammed is the youngest of the three children of Imthiyaz and Badrunnisa Banu. Residents of the area said that this was the second incident where a child was attacked by dogs.
“A week ago, a child of a labourer was attacked by a few dogs. The child underwent medical treatment in the Government Wenlock Hospital,” Syed Lateef, a resident of Mohiuddin Nagar.
Mayor Mahabala Marla said on Thursday that Mangalore City Corporation will bear part of the cost of two-year-old Mohammad Imad's medical treatment.
The money for the medical treatment would be drawn from funds meant for welfare of backward classes and minorities.

Meanwhile, Democratic Youth Federation of India's Mangalore city unit president B.K. Imtiyaz said that the issue of stray dog menace in the area had been raised during a meeting of the Mangalore City Corporation a few days ago.
“Councillor Dayanand had expressed concern over such dog attacks. But action is yet to be taken,” he said. It was ironical that the corporation has not taken any action though its personnel, who visit the abattoir for inspection, are aware of the stray dog menace in the area,” Mr. Imtiyaz said.
Mr. Hussain said that residents and members of the Mohiuddin Jumma Masjid Committee have taken up the issue of stray dogs in the area several times with area councillor Aziz Kudroli. “It is only today that corporation personnel arrived here to chase away the dogs,” repented Mr. Hussian, while pressing for compensation for young Mohammad.
