Mangalore, Aug 9: The driver of this wrecked car had an incredibly lucky escape, after the vehicle was reduced into a bundle of metals in a horrific crash near Kulur on the outskirts of the city.
The horror smash happened on Saturday evening, when a speeding truck rammed into the ill-fated Swift car from the rear end amidst traffic jam.
Eyewitnesses couldn't believe their eyes when the driver was brought out of the destroyed car alive.
It is learnt that Uday Kumar, a 23-year-old man from Puttur was stuck in traffic jam near tanker near the NMPT main gate on the Mangalore-Udupi stretch of the National Highway.
According to the Mangalore North Traffic police, Uday Kumar was driving towards the city after meeting a relative in Surathkal around 4 p.m.
Near the NMPT gate, he reportedly turned right. His car was behind a gas tanker. Another bullet tanker hit the car from behind and came over it.
The police said it took nearly 30 minutes to bring Uday Kumar out from the mangled car. He had an injury to his right hand and was treated at a private hospital, the police said.
Despite the fact the car was destroyed completely by the devastating impact, police sources said the driver only suffered "minor injuries".
The crash worsened the traffic jam between Mangalore and Surathkal for next couple of hours.
Suratkal traffic police registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter. Following pictures show the shocking damage to the car.
