Mangaluru, Mar 26: A city based Muslim family that travelled to Dubai through an Air India Express flight last night, had a harrowing experience at the Mangaluru International Airport as the airline officials allegedly tried to prevent their journey.

The family members, who were allowed to board the flight at the last moment, accused the staff at the Air India Express counter of harassment. Navaz Jeppu, the head of the family told this correspondent that they had submitted all the eight passports at the counter.
After checking the passports and tickets the staff at the counter said that a child passenger’s ticket was not entered and hence the child was not eligible to travel with the mother. This was a shocker for the family members as they were not in a position to travel without the child. Cancellation of other tickets was also not an option as it could have caused a huge loss.
However, the head of the family, who was very sure that all relevant formalities were completed, confirmed with his son Nouzil in Dubai about the status of the tickets and other travel documents. Following this, the staff at the counter started checking the documents once again and showed green signal to the child’s travel.
The problem did not end here. The airlines staff returned only seven out of the eight passports to the family. When they demanded for the passport of another child passenger, the staff claimed that they had received only seven passports.
The family members were sure that they had submitted all eight passports. However, they checked all their bags if it contained the passport; but couldn't find. Then they began to argue with the airlines staff at the counter. Meanwhile, another passenger noticed the eighth passport lying beneath a file at the counter. The family members suspect that the airlines personnel had deliberately hidden the passport to prevent their journey.
This is not the first case of alleged harassment by Air India Express personnel at the Mangaluru International Airport. Many Middle East bound passengers in the past have reportedly faced similar problems.
