Mangaluru, Dec 23: Hundreds of families flocked to the local beaches along the coast in Karnataka to take a dip in the sea on Monday on the special occasion of Ellamavasye.
People were at the sea shore as early as 5 a.m. to take a dip in the sea in beaches at Someshwar, Padubidri, Kaup, Malpe, Yermal and other places.. This ritual went on for most part of the morning and noon as families including children and elderly came in large numbers to be a part of the ancient ritual on the auspicious occasion.
On the occasion, people performed'Pithr Pinda Pradhana' for the soul of their forefathers after the'Samudra Snana' was performed on the seashore.
Since several families would be arriving at the sea shore early before dawn, the district administration had made arrangements for lights and other facilities at most beaches with the help of the locals.
Police and security arrangements had also been made for the safety of people who were advised not to venture into deeper waters. Lifeguards had also been stationed at some points on the beaches.
