Mangalore, May 22: Emotional tributes were paid to the victims Mangalore air crash on Thursday to mark the fourth anniversary of city's worst ever aviation disaster.
District in charge Minister B Ramanath Rai, Mangalore Mayor Mahabala Marla, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim and others laid wreaths as a tribute to the victims. The programme was organized by Dakshina Kananda district administration.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister extended the sympathies to the families of crash victims. “Nobody can forget that day,” he said.
Mahesh Pai who was Airport Air Traffic Controller at the time of tragedy recalled those painful memories after paying tribute at the crash site. “I gave the air clearance signal to the pilot. I had also talked to him minutes before the tragedy,” recalled an emotional Pai.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner took the officials of Airport Authority into task for organizing a separate programme at the site without informing district administration.
158 people had lost their lives, while eight others survived, when Air India Express flight IX 812 overshot Bajpe airport runway and crashed into a deep gorge on May 22, 2010.
