May 10, 2015

Bengaluru: May 10: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday that the responsibility of the Excise and Lottery Enforcement Cell of the State police had been separated from the IGP rank officer and the same had been delegated to the superintendents of police at respective districts.

He was speaking at a review meeting of the senior police officers at the office of the DG&IGP. The chief minister said that there were 41 stations of the cell in the State.

The cell, managed by an IGP, two SPs and six DySPs, had proved to be ineffective with the lottery and matka menace continuing unhindered. Thus the changes had been effected, the chief minister said.

The district crime bureaus would henceforth conduct raids on lottery and matka dens and the same would be monitored by the respective SPs, he said. Siddaramaiah said that steps would be taken to strengthen the intelligence department as it had not been functioning up to the mark.

Separate recruitments would be made to the department and special training provided to the personnel.

He said that SP, DySPs and inspectors who had served in the same city or district for more than five years had been transferred. This could not be done earlier due to various pressures. The same pattern would be followed for SIs too, the chief minister said.
