
Mangalore, May 4: A Tamil Nadu based mother and son died on spot after a massive explosion at their house located near a stone quarry at Nelligudda near Mulky on the on the outskirts of the city.
The bodies of the victims -Erichamma (50) Paraman Uthandy (25)- were disfigure beyond recognition.
The impact of the explosion was such that the cement-sheet-roof of the house was blown off and two rooms were completely destroyed.
Eye witnesses said that the head of a body was found 50 feet away from the blast site, while parts another body were found on the roof and inside the debris.
Four members of a neighboring house sustained injuries in the blast. They have been rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment.
A total of six houses have been damaged, said an eye witness.
The exact reason for the blast is yet to be ascertained. Some residents suspected that domestic gas explosion might have led to this tragedy. However, the police have not ruled out the possibility of illegal stocking of explosives inside the house.
Over a hundred quarry labourers, hailing from different parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are residing in the vicinity.
A case has been registered at jurisdictional Mulky police station and investigations are on.
