Mangaluru, Jan 25: The first draft copy of the Beary-Kannada-English dictionary has been handed over to the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy. The dictionary compilation process was started around 14 months ago under the patronage of the Academy.
In a programme held in the academy office on Monday, the editor of the dictionary BM Ichlangod, and sub-editors Abdul Rahiman Kuthethur and Zohra Abbas handed over the copy to Academy president BA Mohammed Haneef and Registrar Umarabba.
An advisory committee headed by Kannada writer Prof BA Vivek Rai helped the compilers add more Beary words to the dictionary and find its Kannada and English meanings.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Haneef said that the dictionary will be finalised by the academy before December 30, 2016. Within two months after the finalising the dictionary printed copies will be ready, he said.
Academy members Hameed Padubidri, K Idinabba, Yusuf Waktar, AA Ayisha Perla were present on the occasion.
