Udupi, Aug 4: At least five cases of drowning were reported in Udupi district since Saturday night.
Around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Shivprakash (20) and five others – all from Bangalore – had gone to Kaup beach for a swim when a sudden undercurrent pulled Mr. Shivprakash down, said the Kaup police. His body is yet to be recovered.

Earlier, two fishermen are feared drowned after their boat was toppled by strong winds and a fierce wave near Malpe on Sunday morning.
According to a complaint filed by Anand Kunder, he along with five others – all residents of Kodibengre – had left the shore in two boats around 6 a.m. for the day's fishing. However, around 11 a.m., a sudden swell caused the two boats to overturn.
Around 11 a.m. on Sunday, Kuppayya Kharvi (56), a fisherman, was returning home after fishing in a nearby stream near Bijoor village, Kundapura taluk to catch fish when he tripped and fell into the Sumanavati stream. Meanwhile, the body of Paddu Ganiga (62), a homemaker, was recovered at a stream near Karimanjeshwar village. According to the police, she had been missing on July 30 after she had left home at 1.30 p.m. to collect coconuts from her farm.
Late on Saturday, the body of Vittal Shetty (55) was found in the Sorante stream at Mala village, near Karkala.
