He said that VRL Logistics Ltd had been illegally storing goods in the apartment complex, without a valid license to use the premises for storage. “The flat owners association was formed and registered in 2007. Since the registered bye-laws are applicable to the entire residential complex, the town panchayat cannot issue a license to the cargo company without our consent or no objection letter. As all kinds of goods, including dangerous and hazardous materials are stored in the godown, which extends deep inside the residential wing of the complex, it poses a hazard to the residential apartments and their occupants, he said, urging the town panchayat not to issue a license to the company without their consent.
He further pointed that the cargo services company had ignored the notices issued by the town panchayat and therefore the panchayat body had the right to forcibly close down the godown and impose fine as per the law.
“Most of the occupants of the residential complex are retired and ailing senior citizens and the movement of heavy trucks and commercial vehicles in the compound at all hours of the day and night is causing considerable nuisance, air pollution and noise pollution to the aged residents. It also poses safety and security risks,” he said, urging the town panchayat to force the company to close the godown without any delay.
The association also urged that the company should be imposed heavy penalty for storing goods for nearly six months without a license.
