Bengaluru, Jul 8: Buoyed by the success of flybus service between Mysuru and Bengaluru, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is all set to replicate it between Manipal and Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

With Manipal, the KSRTC is hoping to target a large number of students pursuing education in different educational institutions in the City.
The KSRTC officials said the luxury buses offer all basic amenities saving passenger's both time and money, besides offering competitive fares. While Mangaluru is the nearest airport for the students from Manipal, the students and professionals prefer to come to Bengaluru to catch domestic as well international flights, since the number of flights is less there.
The officials said that the flybuses between Mysuru and the KIA have done very well in the past one year so much so that another bus had to be put on this route to meet the demand. Therefore, the buses having pantry and toilet facilities, which were earlier running as Airavata Bliss, are now being utilised as flybuses between Mysuru and KIA, they added.
Fares jacked up
At present, the fare to commute in the luxury bus till Mysuru is about Rs 800 whereas the private bus operators usually jack up the fares during weekend and depending on demand-supply equation. Similarly, many private buses plying to Mangaluru, Udupi and other areas increase the fares substantially during holidays and weekends and still there is no guarantee that the buses would ply as per the scheduled timings.
The KSRTC has further slashed the fares for a period of three months till September 30 for those travelling in its premium services by 10 per cent and for those travelling on weekdays the fares have further been slashed by 20 per cent.
Before starting the flybus service to Manipal, the KSRTC officials are, in fact, gathering inputs related to frequent air passengers, flight timings and so on to be able to further the service to other places.
